The CNC division works with three machines: the lathe, the CNC ShopBot, and the Precision Mathews Manual Milling machine. We use the lathe to make standoffs and hex shafts. We use the milling machine to fabricate 1x1 or 2x1 aluminum extrusions. We cut wood, Lexan, and metal.

We start off teaching CNC to our newest members by introducing the basics of VCarve, which is a toolpathing application. Then, we teach them the differences between end mills and drill bits. Next, we begin teaching the ShopBot through small practice cuts. By doing these small cuts, we build a foundation that helps them cut larger and more complex parts.
Our CNC division is one of our newest divisions, and we have learned so much, but there is always more to do. Here are some resources that helped us make an impact. We hope it could do the same for others!
